Maidstone United have named Nicky Southall as their new assistant manager.
Southall, who quit as Whitstable boss at the end of last season, replaces Steve Ward who left the Gallagher Stadium on Thursday.
The former Gillingham midfielder will be in the dugout on Saturday when United host Met Police in their first game of the new season.
Stones boss Jay Saunders said: "Nicky's played at the top level - he's played in pretty much every league going.
"He's someone that's been on the other side of it as well, obviously assistant manager at Gills and coach and things, then's he's been a manager at Whitstable. He's got a lot of experience."
Southall, who played in the Premier League with Bolton, revealed the call to replace Ward came out of the blue.
He said: "It's been a funny few days and hours to be honest. I'm glad to be here working alongside Jay and I'm looking forward to the challenge."
