Jamie Philpot’s brace steered frontrunners Glebe to a Southern Counties East Premier Division success over Snodland on Saturday.

Striker Philpot converted a penalty and bagged his second in their 2-0 win at Foxbury Avenue midway through the second period.

Glebe are four points clear at the top - six ahead of third-placed Deal - but Steve King’s in-form Hoops have a massive five fixtures in hand on the top two and were 2-0 victors at basement boys Welling Town.

Midfielder Macauley Murray was influential, as he delivered a first-half corner for Billy Munday to break the deadlock and secured the points for Deal with an 80th-minute free-kick.

The Hoops will host Faversham, 4-1 weekend winners at Fisher, in a vital top-three game on Tuesday.

Tommy Warrilow’s team were 3-1 in front by half-time at St Paul's Sports Ground - midfielder Sam Hasler setting up divisional top scorer Stefan Payne for the opener before Hasler bagged his own brace - despite Charles Yiadom-Konadu getting one back.

Stand-in skipper Matt Newman got a fourth for Faversham after the restart as a healthy away contingent helped make up the crowd of 182.

Ollie Freeman got a hat-trick in fifth-placed Bearsted’s 6-1 victory at Holmesdale.

Forward Freeman’s goals had them three goals clear midway through the first period and Dan Melvin, Nathan Palmer and Eniola Hassan further extended the advantage for Kevin Stevens’ side - leaving Wale Odedoyin’s second-half strike as a mere consolation.

Play-off occupants Corinthian held on for a goalless draw at manager-less Hollands & Blair despite ending the match with nine players.

Goalkeeper Nathan Boamah was sent off and defender Harry Lashley also got a second yellow card after the interval.

Whitstable’s recent poor league form continued as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Punjab United.

With defender Ollie Gray and striker James Jeffrey both returning for the Oystermen from Faversham and Lordswood respectively, they initially trailed to a 10th-minute goal from Gabriel Piorkowski in front of a crowd of 406 at The Belmont.

But Whitstable striker Emmanuel Oloyede equalised to earn them a point. It’s now just one league win in seven for the Oystermen, though.

Lordswood edged a five-goal game at home to fourth-bottom Stansfeld.

Jimmy Witt claimed the winning goal midway through the second period, an early goal from Callum Peck and Danny Keyte’s effort earlier being cancelled out by strikes by Mayo Olufeko and Joe Matthews.

Rusthall struck late to salvage a 1-1 draw at Sutton Athletic.

Marcel Brown put Sutton Athletic boss Ryan Huckle’s team ahead - only for Dan Blunn to level at the death.

Two penalties from Zak Bryon helped VCD to a 3-2 victory at Lydd.

His first spot-kick and striker Charlie Heathley’s effort had the visitors in front and, although Lydders - now managed by Scott Porter - hit back through forwards Luke Burdon and Dean Grant, Byron’s second penalty won it for VCD.

Third-bottom Kennington battled to a goalless draw at home to play-off chasing Erith Town at Homelands.

Staplehurst are third in Division 1, nine points behind frontrunners AFC Whyteleafe with two games in hand, as second-half strikes by Stanley Oldfield and Ted Rosetti got them to a 2-0 triumph.

Fellow play-off occupants Larkfield & New Hythe were beaten 2-1 at home to Bridon Ropes despite a first-half goal from Matt Day.

Two-goal Mo Cham helped Canterbury City beat Tooting Bec at Margate’s Hartsdown Park.

Cham claimed his efforts in the first 17 minutes. Jake McCarthy added a third for Danny Lawrence’s troops before the break, leaving Tooting Bec’s two second-half strikes to be in vain.

Faversham Strike Force held second-placed Lewisham to a goalless draw at Salters Lane.

A goal by Ike Bignell wasn’t enough for K Sports, beaten 3-1 at home to FC Elmstead.
