Spitfires need to produce Sunday best

00:00, 04 July 2003

KENT Spitfires may have to hoist the drawbridge at The Mote this weekend to prevent title-chasing Glamorgan from returning to Wales with a National League win.

In a change to the usual format, this year’s Maidstone Festival Week starts with Spitfires’ 45-over clash with the Dragons starting at 1pm on Sunday.

Robert Croft’s side arrive in the county town placed second in Division 1, just two points off pace-setters Surrey and having won from five of their six starts.

Croft and Co will also be buoyed by their seven-wicket humbling of Kent in Cardiff back in May when the Welsh skipper bagged three for 33 with his quirky off-spinners to help dismiss Kent for a paltry 192.

Australian pace bowler Michael Kasprowicz was another class act that day and he too may find The Mote pitch to his liking.

Kent go into the game second to bottom with just eight points following their two wins from seven starts.
