Maidstone United’s scheduled National League South trip to Aveley on Monday night has been postponed due to traffic disruption.

Drivers are being advised to avoid a section of the M25 as significant disruption is likely to last into the evening as work continues to repair the carriageway after two major incidents.

In a club statement shortly before 4pm, Aveley posted on social media: “@AveleyFC, @maidstoneunited and @TheVanaramaNL officials have all agreed, due to the current standstill traffic affecting the visitors getting across the Dartford crossing, to postpone this evening’s fixture.

“New date to be confirmed.”

One of the two Dartford tunnels has been closed throughout the day. A large volume of hydraulic liquid leaked during essential overnight maintenance work on one of the northbound tunnels at the Dartford Crossing.

This led to the continued closure of the tunnel (east tunnel) as around 400 metres of the road requires resurfacing, reducing capacity for northbound traffic by 50 per cent and leading to lengthy delays.

George Elokobi’s Stones, who drew 1-1 at home to Slough last weekend, will return to action at the Gallagher Stadium against Hemel Hempstead on Saturday.
