FA CARLSBERG Vase newboys Maidstone face the team with the best record in the competition on Saturday when Hungerford Town visit Central Park (3pm kick off). The Ryman League Division 2 side have never won the tournament but have been semi-finalists three times, the most recent occasion in 1989 when they lost to Sudbury.
Their record in recent years is less impressive which is why they meet Maidstone in the second qualifying round. Their league form so far is also poor with only one win in seven and they were knocked out of the AXA FA Cup by Lordswood.
Maidstone manager Jim Ward says that despite Hungerford's bad start, he will warn his players against complacency. He stressed: "You must always be wary of teams with tradition. You have to give them respect for what they have achieved. On paper we are probably favourites but the job still has to be done."
Terry Cordice and Phil Turner are back from suspension and could figure in Ward's 16-strong squad.
A coach has been organised to take supporters to Central Park, Sittingbourne. It will pick up outside the White Horse on London Road at 1.30pm, the British Queen at 1.40pm and the Chiltern Hundreds at 1.50pm. You can the club's marketing assistant Tina Buckle on 01622 834821 to reserve a seat.
