Maidstone players must rise to the occasion in their biggest game of the season.

Stones need to beat Bognor Regis at the Gallagher Stadium on Saturday to keep their Ryman League, Premier Division play-off hopes alive.

They are three points off fifth place with only three games left and boss Jay Saunders knows it’s time to deliver.

He said: “It’s as big as it gets with the way the league is. We’re three points off fifth and only four off second. That’s how tight it is. It probably is win-or-bust for us on Saturday.

“There might be an outside chance if we draw but if we win our last three, I think we’ll be in the play-offs.

“There’s pressure on everyone but these were the games I looked forward to and wanted to be involved in when I was playing. We’ve risen to the occasion in big games before – think back to the play-offs last year – and I’d like to think we’ll do it again.”

Third-placed Bognor showed signs of feeling the pressure in a 4-3 defeat at Hampton & Richmond on Tuesday night. But they’re a good team and Saunders, who has winger Alex Flisher back after a three-game ban, is wary of going all-out attack.

He said: “They’re a side you need to be careful against because they create chances and score goals."

Maidstone go to Met Police on Easter Monday and finish the season at home to Grays next weekend.
