Maidstone United manager Jay Saunders calls for improvement ahead of Hemel Hempstead trip

Maidstone boss Jay Saunders has reminded players what he expects ahead of a difficult National League South away game.

Stones have followed their opening-day win at Sutton with back-to-back home defeats by Ebbsfleet and Oxford.

They're back on the road tonight (7.45pm) to face a Hemel Hempstead side who have won all three matches.

Saunders said: "We’ve got to go there and put on a performance.

“If we do that, Oxford will be forgotten about and you can look at it and say six points from four games in a new league is something to build on.

"I hate losing games but we can't sulk.

"I’ve had a little bit of a moan to the players, just to say there’s certain things I expect us to be better at.

"We’ve just got to move on and concentrate on the next game.

"No player likes being moaned at but it’s not a major moan.

"What was disappointing against Oxford is they've not really troubled us.

"It's different if you play a team and they're all over you.

"Ebbsfleet fully deserved their three points but I don’t think we deserve to lose to Oxford.

"Again, it’s that difference in class."
