Stones in bid for stadium consent

MAIDSTONE United FC have submitted proposals for a Southern League standard football stadium to Maidstone council for their consideration, ahead of a formal planning application.
The project, long earmarked for land between Whatman Way and the River Medway, was delayed while an alternative proposal from Weeks Construction Limited was considered.
But although Maidstone chairman Paul Bowden Brown was impressed by Weeks' proposals, complications mean he has decided to press on with his initial plans.
The Stones manager Jm Ward has completed the signing of Herne Bay striker Scott Appleton.
Ward said: "He's a target man and we haven't had one of them since Steve Butler. He got 20 goals in a bad team last year."
