Stones sign a star of Morocco

00:00, 08 March 2002

MAIDSTONE United have pulled off a publicity coup by signing Moroccan international goalkeeper Chuck Moussaddik who will make his debut in the friendly against Gillingham next Tuesday night at Sittingbourne's Central Park.

The 32-year-old has signed a three-match deal as cover for Kevin Hudson, who starts a suspension later this month. Moussaddik played four times for his nation's senior side and 17 times at under-21 level and travelled with the team to Mali earlier this year for the African Cup of Nations.

He represented Morocco in a friendly against Brazil in 1998 and conceded only one goal in 65 minutes, scored by Ronaldo.

His former clubs include Wimbledon, Tottenham, Wycombe Wanderers, Barnet, Dallas Sidekicks, Connecticut Wolves and Kings Lynn.

He has returned to the UK to find a new professional club and he sees Tuesday's game (kick-off 7.45pm) against Nationwide Division 1 club Gillingham as an ideal shop window. He will then play in the home Bass Brewers Kent League match against Beckenham on Tuesday, March 19, and at VCD Athletic in the first leg of the Premier Division Cup semi-final on Saturday, March 23.

Stones manager Jim Ward said: "I have used my contacts to convince Chuck to join us for a few games. He is international quality and seeing him in action will be a treat for Stones supporters. Hopefully it will convince even more people to come and watch the Gillingham match."
