Joe Young and Gillie Turner win elite singles titles at belated Maidstone Open finals day

Joe Young made it a belated double at the Maidstone Open finals day.

The tournament began last October but finals day, initially scheduled for March this year, was postponed due to Covid-19.

When the action finally got under way at Freedom Leisure defending men's elite champion Young faced a rematch against 2020 runner-up Ravi Salh, winning 6-4, 6-2.

In the ladies' singles Gillie Turner from Maidstone beat Liz Groves (Tunbridge Wells) in a closely-fought three set match and the men's elite doubles title went to Maidstone’s Steven Blythe and Seb Kay.

Other results saw Andrew Heath, playing in three finals, win the singles against Andrew Bourne 6-1, 6-3.

Anne Gibbs and Myra Hunter won the ladies' over-60s doubles while Tunbridge Wells' Jason Baker and Shan White won a third set championship tie-break 16-14 to take the vets' mixed doubles title.
