The Mote in danger of demotion
00:00, 22 August 2003
THE Maidstone-based side The Mote are facing the prospect of being relegated from the Kent Cricket League's premier division for the first time in their history.
They slipped to the bottom of the division after losing by three wickets to leaders St Lawrence last weekend.
Now they have just two home games left, against Bromley on Saturday and Whitstable the following week.
“We shall probably have to win both of these games to stay up,” said opening bowler Darren Wheeler. “However, we are far from despondent and feel we could still survive.”
To add to The Mote’s problems Australian overseas pace bowler Mark George could miss the Bromley match after suffering a painful blow on the toe while batting on Saturday.
Gore Court suffered a shock three wicket defeat at The Grove against Bickley Park. The result knocked the Sittingbourne side off the top of Division One and dents their title ambitions as Beckenham and Canterbury both took full advantage.
