Maidstone’s British and Commonwealth super-bantamweight champion Dennis McCann counting on promoter Frank Warren to make dream of fighting at Gallagher Stadium a reality this summer

Dennis McCann wants to fight in his home town of Maidstone - while he still can.
McCann, the British and Commonwealth super-bantamweight champion, is set for a European title fight in June.
A rematch with Ionut Baluta is considered the next stop for McCann, 23, on his journey to the top of boxing.
He aims to pack out big arenas as a world champion but, before that, wants to box in Maidstone.
McCann has echoed fellow boxers Sam and Sean Noakes’ calls for a show at the Gallagher Stadium and is confident promoter Frank Warren will make it happen for the trio of local lads.
“I pull quite a lot of weight with Frank Warren and my goal is to try and get a fight at the Gallagher Stadium,” said McCann.
“I don’t know if I’m starting to bypass that now but before I get too big I’d love to fight there.
“I don’t know if it would hold enough people but I’m really pushing for that now. I’m trying to get Frank to put it on in the summer.
“It won’t be the next fight but the one after that I’d love to headline in Kent and defend my belts in Kent.
“You’ve got Sam and Sean Noakes and the Itauma brothers, Moses and Karol, from Chatham, could fight as well.
“To fight in Kent as the British, European and Commonwealth champion would be massive. It would be unbelievable, wouldn’t it?”
A Kent show is part of McCann’s plan to raise the profile of boxing in the county. He’s keen to do his bit to help the next generation.
“I want to try and bring more engagement to Kent - that’s my goal,” said McCann.
“I’d like to do a bit of school work around Kent as well and inspire the next generation.
“It would be fantastic to organise something in Kent like an open workout in one of the towns.
“We’d all love to do stuff like that. It would be great if someone could make that happen but we haven’t got brains as boxers - all we know about is getting punched!”
