Tonbridge have offered former QPR and Crystal Palace defender Gary Borrowdale a deal for the new season.

The 28-year-old has been on trial at Longmead and is building his fitness after a spell out of the game.

A back injury forced him off in the 4-0 pre-season win against Whitstable last weekend but he played 90 minutes for the reserves on Tuesday and is set to feature when Angels host a Gillingham XI on Saturday.

Boss Tommy Warrilow said: “The club have spoken to Gary and made him an offer. We’ll have a chat again after Saturday but at the moment he still needs more games.

“I’m not going to put any pressure on him. He’s been out of the game something like 18 months, but you know you’ve got a player on your hands.

“It’s his positional sense and awareness and just little things that ex-players would perhaps notice more than the paying public.

“He also has a great left foot and is a calming influence on the lads.”

Angels will be at full-strength for the match against a young Gills side and open their Skrill South campaign at home to Boreham Wood next weekend.
