Captain Steve Watt has called on Maidstone United to make the most of their play-off reprieve.

The FA ruled at an appeal hearing this week that United can take part in the Ryman League, Premier Division play-offs, even though current Conference regulations on 3G pitches would deny them promotion.

United co-owner Oliver Ash intends to take the Conference to a tribunal if they don’t change their stance and Watt is desperate to give them something to think about by winning the play-offs.

He said: “I’ve always been someone who wants people to make a decision.

“It would have been easy to roll over and accept we couldn’t be in the play-offs. Now we have the chance, let’s win the play-offs and force the powers that be into making a decision.

"I’d imagine they’re hoping we don’t make it but it’s up to us to ask the question.”

United go to Bury on Saturday having won only one of their last eight games but Watt says the dip in form cannot be blamed on uncertainty surrounding the play-offs.

He added: “It would be an easy excuse for our recent results but it hasn’t been spoken
about. It would be clutching at straws to say it’s affected our performances."
