Life as Maidstone United’s goalkeeper may be quiet at times but you won’t find Lee Worgan complaining.

The former Wales under-21 international was never out of the action last season in a struggling Tonbridge Angels side.

But since Worgan left the Conference South behind last summer to sign for the Stones, he’s often been a spectator in a team that’s pushing to get there.

Maidstone have only conceded 15 league goals at the Gallagher Stadium this season, the best home defensive record in the Ryman League Premier Division.

Worgan said: "I’ve loved it. It was a good move for me and I’ve particularly enjoyed the home games, in front of big crowds.

"At Tonbridge, with the style of football we played under Tommy (Warrilow) and the division we were in, I had lots to do. It’s been different this season, it’s been more based on my distribution and coming for crosses.

"I might not be involved in the game for 15 or 20 minutes at a time. It’s a different position to be in this year but it’s been just as enjoyable."

Worgan’s efforts have helped the Stones stay unbeaten at the Gallagher, although drawing nine of their 19 league games there has been a source of frustrations for supporters.

Worgan said: "It’s been a difficult year for them because there is an expectancy. At the start of the season, we did so well, so I can understand their frustration. But I’d urge them to bear with us because we are a new side, in a new league."

Another clean sheet against promotion rivals Dulwich Hamlet on Saturday would be one of Worgan’s most important so far.

He said: "When we went to Dulwich earlier in the season, they had a big home support. They’re the games you look forward to."
