Maidstone will need to produce their best-ever FA Cup display under Jay Saunders if they are to match last year’s run.

Beating Yeovil in the first round on Sunday will be even harder than knocking out Stevenage, according to the Stones boss.

The Glovers may be struggling at the foot of League 2 but Saunders has warned they are a bigger club than Boro, who United beat in a replay at this stage last year.

A record crowd approaching 3,000 is expected at the Gallagher Stadium to see if Maidstone will pull off another upset, but Saunders is reading nothing into Yeovil’s league struggles.

He said: “They’re not having the best of times. I know they’ve got a lot of injuries and I think they had a few more last Saturday.

“It’s all doom and gloom but then you do find there’s those teams each year who aren’t doing well in their league but have a good cup run and there’s no reason why that can’t be them.

“Quite a few supporters came up to me at Concord and said we can beat Yeovil, that Stevenage were doing better last year and we beat them but you can’t think like that.

“They’re a league team for a reason, they’re a big club who were in the Championship two seasons ago and we are a club new to National South. For me, if you’re comparing them with Stevenage, Yeovil are bigger so it’s going to be a harder game."

“Last season, in the two games against Stevenage and when we beat Welling, we had everyone on their game. For us to stand a chance, everyone’s got to be at it.”
