Halloween 2019: Snodland couple host haunted house for charity

15:00, 25 October 2019

Pumpkins, witches and a 7ft dragon are just some of the spook-tacular decorations at one couple's Halloween house.

Andrew and Helen Damms from Snodland, have been decorating their home for the scary season since 2015, all in the name of charity.

What began as a one off front garden makeover, soon spiralled into a massive project, which includes revamping the back garden, conservatory, side garden, and various areas inside the house.

Families are welcomed inside for a night of fearful fun free of charge.

Andrew and Helen just ask for donations, which go towards Cancer Research UK.

Mr Damms, 55, explained how they start planning in January and have spent nearly £2,000 of props for this year's experience.

Ghosts created using projectors will be in the windows, clowns and witches will cackle throughout the evening and a man in a electric chair can be spotted inside.

People will be hiding throughout the house as well.

Th landscape design artist said: "Last year we raised more than a thousand and we are hoping to beat it this year.

"We chose the charity because my mum passed away from cancer and it is a great cause.

"There will also be a raffle on the night as well, mulled wine, soft drinks and cupcakes will be on sale too.

"Last year traffic was crazy and I reckon we had about a 1,000 people come along."

Work on the house started in September, with the conservatory being transformed to make room for a 7ft dragon stuck behind iron bars.

The dad-of-two said: "The weekend of October 26 will be when the hard work starts. It usually takes three or four days to finish completely.

"Some people are asking if we will do one for Christmas, so who knows."

Last year the couple transformed their front garden into a haunted graveyard.
You can head along to Saltings Road on October 30 and October 31 to have a go inside the Halloween house.
