A couple were treated for minor burns and smoke inhalation after an unattended candle started a house fire in Wateringbury this morning.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to Tonbridge Road just after 12am. Crews find the blaze well established in the upstairs bedroom.

The occupants, a man and woman in their 20s had attempted unsuccessfully to tackle the fire themselves. Firefighters used a hose reel to bring it under control and then ventilated the house.
