A home is being sought for a German shepherd after she was left tied to a tree in an area of woodland beside a main road.

The dog, now called Princess, is being cared for at the RSPCA's Leybourne Animal Centre after she was found tethered up next to the A2 in Greenwich last night.

Inspectors are now appealing for information as to where Princess might have come from and are seeking new owners for her.

Insp Anthony Pulfer said: “She was tied to a tree in a wooded area which was hidden from the road so she was hugely lucky that someone in the area spotted her.

“It was dark and she was abandoned away from the main road so she could have easily gone unnoticed for days.

“To leave her alone, tied to a tree, in the cold and wintry weather is unbelievable. She must have been very confused and frightened to watch someone walking away from her and leaving her alone in the dark.”

A vet could not find a microchip in Princess.

He added: “Princess is lucky that she was seen and we were able to rescue her.

“I’d like to hear from anyone who recognises her and may know where she has come from or from anyone who may have seen her being left in the area last week.

Once Princess has undergone further examinations and assessed by staff she will be put up for rehoming if not claimed by an owner.
