A man has been arrested after a serious crash in the early hours of this morning that closed part of the M26.
Two cars collided on the eastbound carriageway between J2A at Wrotham and the M20 at J3 at around 3am.
Traffic was trapped behind the crash for about two hours before being released by police.
Police, ambulance and fire crews were called to the scene just before 3am today.
A 26-year-old man from Dartford was arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit through drink or drugs, and currently remains in custody while enquiries continue.
A police spokesman said: "The road was closed until around 6am while work was carried out to release one of the occupants from a car, and recover the vehicles."
A diversion route was set up via the A20 and A228 through Wrotham Heath and Leybourne where drivers re-joined the M20 at J4.
The motorway opened again just before 6.30am.
