A stretch of the M20 will be closed until Monday morning while a new footbridge is installed.
The motorway will be shut in both directions between junctions 3, for the M26/ Borough Green and 4, for Leybourne until 6am on Monday, November 30. The closure came in at 8pm yesterday.
The eastbound M26 will also be closed at junction 2a for the installation of the footbridge which will span the M20, at East Street, near Addington.
Serving cyclists and pedestrians, the 53ft long structure will be lifted into place this weekend.
It replaces a bridge which was demolished after collapsing when struck by a HGV in 2016.
A new pedestrian access ramp on the southern side of the bridge will also be fitted at the same time.
It is being transported in two pieces, which will be joined together in the air and lifted into place as one.
Peter Philips, Highways England route manager, said: “It’s great news for the local community that the bridge will soon be back open.
"We expect the bridge to be open on Monday morning, which will be a huge relief to cyclists and pedestrians in particular.
“I’d like to thank everyone who has worked so hard to get this bridge open again and the local communities for their patience.”
