A renewed bid for a proposed housing development has once again been met by strong opposition.

The Tregothnan Estate submitted a new planning application last month, seeking outline planning permission to build 65 homes on the boundary of Kings Hill.

Plans submitted last year were withdrawn on January 11 this year.

New plans submitted to Tonbridge and Malling council on March 25 show the Tregothnan Estate want to use a 3.2 hectare site to build new homes on, with primary access to the site being through Clearheart Lane.

The oblong-shaped piece of land approaches Teston Road in the north and lies north of Cattering Wood.

But the plans have once again been met by strong opposition, with a host of objections having been made by residents.

Nearly 200 people have already opposed the proposed housing development in the first month since the fresh plans were submitted.

Among the reasons given are the additional strain it will put on healthcare professionals in the area, the negative impact it could have with wildlife at the Woodland and the extra traffic which it could help to bring.

Shakira Falzon-Thomas, from McArthur Drive, Kings Hill, started a petition in 2020 when the plans were first put forward and the petition got 2,274 signatures.

A co-ordinator for the Kings Hill Friends of the Earth Group, she said she was "shocked and appalled" by the proposals.

Tregothnan Estate, owned by The Honourable Evelyn Arthur Hugh Boscawen, heir to the Viscountcy of Falmouth, bought the land from the Ministry of Defence.

It was previously part of West Malling Airfield, which closed in 1966.
