A new special needs school for 182 students has been suggested for Tonbridge.

KCC is consulting Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council planning committee.

The school will provide places for pupils between the ages of two and 19 who have complex, profound and severe needs.

The county council proposes building a two-storey school with 163 parking spaces and a series of hard courts and playgrounds on an area of green belt next to Higham Lane.

The proposal states KCC intends to “create a building that motivates the children and teachers and consolidates strong links with the wider community, whilst providing a flow between primary and secondary environments.”

In addition to the classrooms and play areas the building will include a series of sensory and therapy rooms and a pool.

A decision will now be made by the county council’s planning department with TMBC consulting.
