The Chequers Inn in Aylesford is up for sale or for rent after death of co-owner David House

A pub which closed following its co-owner’s death is now on the market for £950,000.
The Chequers Inn, Aylesford shut immediately in February after the owner, David House, died following a battle with cancer.
Three of his other pubs also closed, including The Hengist, Aylesford, The Amehurst Inn, Seal, and the Walnut Tree, Yalding.
The Grade II listed building is now available to rent or buy and is marketed as a “characterful village pub house”.
It is available to rent with a guide value of around £75,000 per year, and to buy with offers invited in the region of £950,000.
The property, which overlooks the River Medway, includes a ground floor, basement, and two upper floors, with a total size of 4,439sq ft.
According to the online listing with Savills, it says: “The Chequers is a Grade II* Listed terraced building fronting the High Street and is arranged over ground, basement, first and second floors beneath a pitched and hipped tile roof.
“There is an external trade garden to the rear which overlooks the River Medway. The ground floor provides an open plan trading area with a single bar servery to the right rear and seating on loose tables and chairs for 58 customers.”
It also states that the enclosed beer garden by the river has bench seating for 88 customers.
Of the other pubs which closed following the co-owners death, The Hengist has reopened under new management following an £80,000 makeover.
Meanwhile, The Walnut Tree, in Yalding is now looking for a new publican under the Stonegate Group.
