Visitors to Leybourne Lakes have been urged to steer clear of the water amidst fears deadly blue green algae may be present.
The toxic bloom is common in bodies of water this time of year, depending on weather conditions and signs have gone up warning of the danger while tests are underway.
Darren Lanes, Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council’s head of leisure services, said: "If the tests are positive the signs will remain in place until the algae has dispersed.
"Advisory notices have been erected as the algal blooms can cause sickness and be harmful to dogs.”
Blue green algae, also known as Cyanobacteria, is present in many streams, rivers and lakes. When its numbers grow significantly it can produce toxins producing rashes after skin contact and illnesses if swallowed.
In May, Conningbrook Lakes in Ashford was closed for water activities after toxic algae called anabaena was found for the second time.
