Chatham dog owner appeals for help to raise money for 14-week-old puppy who cannot walk

A dog owner is hoping to raise thousands of pounds to help her young puppy to walk properly for the first time.

Kyzer, a 14-week-old grey British Bulldog, is unable to use his back legs due to a birth defect.

His owner Natasha Leighton, of Elm Avenue, Chatham, bought him in April, only to notice afterwards that he had problems with his limbs.

The 37-year-old says she is determined to give him the best life possible by raising £2,000 to partly pay for operations, physio, hydro pool treatments and round the clock care for the pup.

The overall cost for treatment is expected to be around £5,000 to £10,000.

The mother-of-one explained Kyzer's condition was classed as pre-existing and would not be covered by her pet insurance care plan.

"As you can imagine, I didn't want to see him in pain or have any permanent damage," she said.

"I went to Surrey to see a specialist who diagnosed Kyzer with congenital malformation of the spine and dislocated knee caps which will need to be operated on to correct and could cost thousands of pounds.

"It's a daunting amount of money to help my baby out and we're already borrowing £2,500 from a friend to carry out his MRI investigations."

The operations manager said despite all this the pup is still trying his hardest to walk and shuffle about.

Natasha added: "He has a harness for his back legs so he thinks he can run again. He’s loving, kind and shows such determination and fight for such a young age and most of all he melts my heart every time I look at him."
