Young prisoner AJ Cracknell found dead in his cell in HMP Rochester

A young man has been found dead in his cell in HMP Rochester, the prison service has confirmed today.

The inmate, named as AJ Cracknell, was 25 years old.

Prison officers entered his cell at around 2pm on Tuesday and found him to be unresponsive.

A prisons service spokesperson said: "Paramedics tried to resuscitate HMP Rochester prisoner AJ Cracknell but he was pronounced dead shortly after.

"As with all deaths in custody there will be an investigation by the independent Prisons and Probation Ombudsman."
