A woman has died after a two-car smash on the London-bound carriageway of the A2 in north Kent overnight.
She was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which happened at about 11.15pm between the M2/A2 near Strood and Cobham junction.
It is believed the woman, who was driving a blue Toyota Yaris, might have broken down in lane one of the carriageway when the collision happened.
She is thought to have been in her 40s and from the London area.
Emergency services were called to the crash scene, about 200 yards from the Cobham turn-off, after the collision between the Toyota and a Honda CRV 4x4 vehicle.
The A2 was closed for almost six hours while the emergency services dealt with the crash scene.
A man in the Honda was taken to hospital, but is not thought to have suffered life-threatening injuries.
The carriageway was closed for several hours while police crash investigators worked at the scene.
It was reopened by around 5am in time for early-morning commuters.
Sgt Glyn Walker, from the Kent Police serious collision investigation unit, said: "It is thought the blue Toyota Yaris was stationary in lane one at the time of the collision.
"I'd urge anyone who saw this vehicle prior to the collision or who witnessed the collision to contact police."
Anyone with information is urged to phone police on 01622 798538.
