Man charged with attempted robbery in East Street, Gillingham

A man has appeared in court charged with attempted robbery and possessing an offensive weapon.
Andy Opoko was arrested following an alleged incident in East Street, Gillingham, at 3.50pm on Monday.
It is reported that Aaron Kirkwood was approached by a cyclist who produced a large knife and demanded he hand over his bag.
Mr Kirkwood is said to have run from the scene, prompting the cyclist to ride away.
Opoko, 34, appeared before Medway magistrates on Wednesday.
At the hearing, Opoko, of Railway Street, Gillingham, was released on bail and will next appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Wednesday, September 2.
