Detailed plans submitted to build flats on former police station site in Rainham

A pile of rubble is all that is left of the former police station in Rainham, as further plans are lodged to build social housing on the site.
Bulldozers moved in to demolish the boarded-up building in Birling Avenue last month to make way for 23 one and two bedroom flats.
The station closed in 2006, along with those in Chatham and Rochester, when the new ‘supernick’ opened in Gillingham.
Heart of Medway Housing Association, a subsidiary of mhs homes, bought the building last June, with outline planning consent to build a block of flats which had been obtained by Kent Poilce before the sale.
Planning permission was granted in 2011, despite 40 letters of objection from residents who were concerned about traffic and parking.
Mhs homes has now submitted a full planning application to Medway Council which includes details of the appearance of the flats and access.
If permission is given, mhs homes hope the work will be completed by winter, 2014.
