Police have been given special powers for a second weekend running as part of a crackdown on dangerous driving.

A dispersal order will be in place in Medway from 7pm today until 7pm on Sunday (July 9), with extra officers patrolling the Towns.

It follows a rise in complaints about nuisance vehicles and dangerous driving during the past month.

It will cover areas in Chatham, Chattenden, Hoo, and Strood.

Inspector Daniel Blatter, of the Medway Community Safety Unit, said: “Residents have reported concerns about the dangers posed to other road users and the impact on the quality of life of the community.

“The orders give our officers additional powers to move on anyone causing a nuisance and, if necessary, arrest those who return to the area once dispersed.

“Those who persist in this behaviour also risk having their vehicles seized.”

The order will be in force in:

Four Elms Hill, Chattenden

Peninsular Way, Ratcliffe Highway and roads within the boundary of Peninsular Way, Bell Lane, and Main Road, Hoo

Leviathan Way, Dock Head Road, Maritime Way, Quayside, Portside View, Wheelwrights Way, Starboard Crescent, Western Avenue and Walter Burke Way, Chatham

Roman Road, Chariot Way, Strood

The order will also cover Chtham’s Dockside Outlet Centre and the Medway Valley Leisure Park in Strood, as well as their associated car parks.

The powers means officers can stop anyone involved in anti-social behaviour and move them on from the area.
