The Archbishop of Canterbury will be visiting Medway at the end of the month.

The Most Rev Justin Welby will be taking part in a prayer walk in Chatham High Street stopping off at shops along the way and visiting the Medway Towns Gurdwara Sabha Sikh Temple in Rochester.

And for the early birds who want to see him on his two-day pastoral visit to the Diocese of Rochester over Monday October 29 and Tuesday October 30, he's planning an early morning run along the River Medway.

Moving to Gillingham, he’ll visit the Medway winter night shelter drop-in at the Salem Church of The Nazarene. There, the Archbishop will help serve food and meet with guests and the volunteers over board games and a meal.

It culminates in a service at Rochester Cathedral on Tuesday at 5.30pm, doors opening at 5pm to which all are welcome. It will have a particular focus on raising awareness of the issue of modern day slavery.

Rt Rev James Langstaff, the Bishop of Rochester said:“This is a wonderful opportunity for us to share with Archbishop Justin, something of the rich and diverse life of the church here, the communities we serve and the challenges that we face.

“We hope it will also be a time for him to meet with a variety of people – both within the church and outside it - to share his own faith in Jesus with them and to encourage them in their daily lives.”

At locations across the region, Archbishop Justin will visit a number of church-based community projects, schools and mission areas, to find out more about the work of churches in the community and to gain an understanding of the shared vision for the Church of England in this area. The diocese takes in north west Kent, south east London as well as Medway.
