Fort Amherst's Halloween Horrors are back for the 31st year
12:00, 20 October 2016
Everybody has a fear. For some it’s clowns, others zombies, some fear monsters... or perhaps the darkness is enough the let the imagination run wild.
For a 31st year Fort Amherst’s Halloween Horrors has something to give everyone a scare.
But if you went last year and think you’ve seen it all, think again. There are all new characters to make you scream or squirm.
A horned zombie demon which leaps about like a demented leopard (and unfortunately keeps escaping from its chains) was my personal nemesis.
But Freddy Krueger, Chucky, bloodied beasts, and nurses missing eyes and carrying syringes terrified the crowd too.
If you’re claustrophobic, beware the monsters when you’re trapped in the vault, or you could end up in a coffin before your time.
At some attractions, you will be told not to touch the actors and they won’t touch you. But not here.
Prepare for vampires to bite your neck, creepy clowns to play with your hair and doctors to stick their fingers in your ears.
The tour around what was a defence centre in preparation for a Napoleonic invasion, is dark, dingy and disturbing.
I went along a few years ago and had a brilliant time. This year didn’t disappoint.
You will scream, but every scare becomes a laugh once you’re out. I haven’t jumped or laughed as much in a long time.
There are more than 100 performers and they volunteer because they love it, not for wages, so you know you’re getting a top notch show.
It has been hailed by experts at www.scaretouruk.com as “the most realistic scares ever achieved in a UK scare attraction”.
The tour runs from tomorrow (Friday) up until October 31.
Tickets cost £12.50 to £15 for adults.
After a successful trial offering tamer tours to teenagers and children, these options will again be available this year at £10 and £6 respectively.
