A man has been arrested by armed police after an officer was threatened with an air gun during a routine home visit.
Firearms officers were called to Ingram Road, Gillingham, after the planned visit at 9am escalated.
Social media rumours say there was a man carrying a machine gun, however police have quashed this and confirmed they seized an air gun from the property.
The road, which is metres away from Saxon Way Primary School, and nearby Church Street were put on lock down while the incident was resolved.
The police helicopter was also deployed in relation to the incident.
Police had initially gone to the house in relation to a separate matter, then a man pulled out a gun.
Spokesman James Walker said: "Upon attendance the officers are reported to have been threatened by a man with a weapon and armed officers were sent to the scene.
"The man has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in custody as inquiries continue.
"Inquiries at the scene are ongoing."
The garden of the property in Ingram Road backs on to Saxon Way School's grounds.
Officers on the scene say the situation is contained and everyone is safe.
Grandmother Nicky Tindall said: "I'm just a bit concerned, I came down because my grand-daughter goes to the school.
"I heard on the radio that Church Street was on lockdown.
"No one has told me what's going on."
There are two police cars surrounding the property.
