Two men have been arrested following a street fight involving bin men clad in high-vis overalls in the middle of Chatham town centre.

The disturbance saw the brawling bin men in a running battle through the high street as shocked shoppers tried to steer clear of trouble.

Dramatic scenes posted on social media at the time showed one worker being knocked to the floor unconscious. Another saw a man in bright orange work wear waving chairs around and shouting aggressively.

Kent Police said two men have now been arrested following the shocking incident on July 5.

A spokesman said investigating officers arrested a 30-year-old from Sittingbourne on suspicion of affray. He was additionally arrested for two counts of assaulting an emergency worker.

A second man, aged 28 and from Gillingham, has been arrested on suspicion of affray.

They were both held in connection with a brawl widely filmed by several people and posted online in Chatham High Street at around 5pm.

Patrols attended the area at the time, but those responsible had already left the scene.

Both men have been released, pending further enquiries. The men's employer, Medway Norse – the Medway Council-owned company which runs bin collections and street cleaning in Medway – dismissed both from their roles.
