A baby has been named after the pub where she unexpectedly arrived into the world just outside.

A new mum posted on Facebook in search of a stranger who came to her aid when she gave birth in early morning traffic on the A2 in Rainham.

She had been making her way to the hospital from her home in Sittingbourne but the baby ended up being born in her partner's car by The Rose Inn.

The couple were helped by a resident from a nearby house. The mum wrote online: "Sorry I don't live locally (we are Sittingbourne) but I'd like to thank the one lady that answered the door at 7am who lives outside Rose pub who helped me with towels and flagging the ambulances when I'd given birth in the front seat of the car in rush hour traffic spontaneously.

"We would love to thank you in person and replace your towels you kindly gave us but with the adrenaline and trauma we aren't 100% which house you lived in."

The post received hundreds of comments and almost 100 shares.

And it seems the mum was able to contact her "angel helper" as she later added: "Thank you all. The lovely lady was Sue. Very grateful she was the only one to help the very panicked other half who didn't quite know what to do while I caught a baby as he was driving! Baby is a pink bundle, healthy and home safe after a very traumatic entrance to the world for all! Sue was our angel helper today."

The Rose Inn's landlord Brain Woodcock didn't know anything about the dramatic event outside his pub until getting a message from the family on Facebook.

He said: "I didn't know anything so it was quite a surprise to get the message. They got in contact to say the baby had been born at 7.05am outside the pub and they have named the baby's middle name after the pub, Rose.

"I have sent back my congratulations and said when things settle down we would love to see them and meet the baby."

KentOnline made contact with the family but they declined to take part in the story.
