Medway schools battle for basketball glory in the Mini Youth Games

The Medway Mini Youth Games continued its record-breaking season with 43 schools taking part in the basketball competition.
More than 400 primary school children played in the tournament at Medway Park, Gillingham,
Each team took part in eight matches and the winners were Delce Academy, Rochester, recording their first Mini Youth Games triumph.
It was one of three schools unbeaten at the end of the day – St Mary’s Island Primary were runners-up and Hempstead Juniors came third.
Wainscott Primary were the highest placed small school in fifth.
The top teams qualified for the night of champions basketball finals this summer as part of the Medway Festival of Sport. Also qualifying were Elaine Primary, Strood; Hilltop Primary, Frindsbury; Horsted, Chatham and St Andrew’s, Rochester.
The fair play award went to Featherby Juniors, Gillingham.
Medway Sports thanked Kent Crusaders basketball club for providing match officials and Medway Park for hosting and supporting the event.
