A boy who was hit by a car was then left with a burn from a cigarette flicked at him by the driver.

The youngster was reportedly struck on the ankle by the vehicle while crossing a road in Chatham with a group of friends before an argument broke out.

The man who was driving the car is said to have got out and verbally abused the child before flicking the lit cigarette at him.

The 13-year-old was unharmed by the collision, police said, but suffered a burn on his hand when the cigarette hit him.

It happened on September 16 at about 8.05am at the roundabout between Walderslade Road and Princes Avenue.

Officers have now launched an investigation and are appealing for witnesses.

PC Scott Bittlestone said: "While we do not have a description of the driver, it is believed he was in a small vehicle that continued towards Wayfield following the incident.

"We have been completing inquiries to trace the motorist, including the examination of CCTV footage in the area, and would be keen to speak to any witnesses who were at this busy roundabout and have not yet spoken to the police."

Detectives have asked for anyone with dashcam footage who were in the area at the time to check footage which may aid inquiries further.
