Gillingham artist Gio Cuison chosen for Turner Contemporary's Open Call exhibition

An artist's work depicting a burger van worker has been selected to go on display at the Turner Contemporary.
Gio Cuison, who studied at the Chelsea School of Art and Central St Martins, paints local tradesmen around the Medway Towns.
His piece entitled The Burger Van, of a woman behind the counter at the van parked in Spade Lane, Hartlip, has been chosen for the Turner's Open Call.
Gio said the oil painting was inspired by the famous work A Bar at the Folies-Bergère by French modernist Édouard Manet.
The exhibition marks the Margate gallery's 10th anniversary. Artists living and working in Kent and Medway, or those working nationally and internationally who studied in the county, were asked to submit their entries.
The exhibition is set to open later this year and last for six months. It will span all four of Turner Contemporary’s galleries.
Victoria Pomery, gallery director, said: “During the pandemic the arts and creativity have played a vital, and perhaps more visible, role in many of our lives. This exhibition will celebrate the wealth of artistic talent living, working or trained in Kent."
