A prolific offender has been locked up for a year after being found guilty of three burglaries and one shoplifting offence.

Mark Dunn, 36, had denied most of the allegations against him but was found guilty of three counts of burglary and one count of shoplifting when he appeared before magistrates in Medway.

Dunn, of Luton Road, had admitted one other charge of burglary when he appeared in the dock.

Magistrates heard how he broke into a shop in High Street, Chatham, in March with the intention to steal from inside.

Later the same month, he stole Easter eggs worth £10 from a supermarket in Chatham and he broke into a shop in High Street, Chatham, and stole £60 cash and a safe worth £200.

He also broke into a restaurant in Military Road, Chatham, and stole cash and alcohol and on another occasion broke into a shop in High Street, Rochester, and stole food and cash.

Magistrates also heard Dunn has numerous previous convictions and in 2004 he was jailed for one year and nine months for drug dealing.

Magistrates jailed Dunn for a year and ordered he pay £150 court costs.

Speaking after sentencing, PC Richard Owne, said: “Dunn is a prolific offender who thought he could get away with breaking into shops and stealing.

I hope this sentence sends out a strong message that we will continue to bring burglars to justice.”
