Pier Road in Gillingham to see two lanes shut for five nights in October for resurfacing

Part of a major road is to shut for five nights for resurfacing work.
Both lanes of the Rainham-bound Pier Road in Gillingham will be closed between Pier Approach Road and The Strand Roundabout.
The work will be carried out from Monday, October 2 for five nights - between 7pm and 7am.
Medway Council says the resurfacing needs to be completed to “maintain and improve” the road network.
It has warned drivers they will face delays.
A spokesman said: “In order to undertake the work, a full road closure is required for the period of the planned work.
“Pier Road will be resurfaced in sections.
“Access will be maintained for residents as and when safe to do so.
“Please allow extra time for your journey as delays will be expected.”
Vehicles which need to reach homes next to Pier Road will be given access from the Asda end.
However, there will be no right turn from the Chatham-bound side into Pegasus Way.
The spokesman continued: “Vehicles wishing to exit from the affected roads will be required to wait and will be escorted/directed by our traffic management operatives to the nearest and safest exit.
“The nearest and safest exit will change during the course of the works depending on where our workmen are.
“Vehicle lifting equipment may be used to ensure the road space is available.
“Resurfacing works are by their nature noisy and it would be expected that higher levels of noise will be experienced during the works.”
