Power outages in Strood caused by fault on underground electricity cable
13:45, 25 February 2015
Power outages across Medway this afternoon were caused by a fault on a high-voltage underground cable.
Outages were reported on Strood High Street and customers reported that electricity went off briefly on Medway City Estate, the Medway Gate area and in Chatham.
A spokesman from UK Power Networks said: "At 12.41pm today, 195 customers in the High Street area of Strood experienced a power cut because of a fault on a high-voltage underground electricity cable.
"UK Power Networks engineers worked as quickly and as safely as possible to restore supplies, with 51 customers having power again at 12.58pm, 94 at 1.10pm and the final 50 at 1.25pm.
"We appreciate how difficult it can be to lose power and would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused by this incident."
Flickering supplies were caused whilst the engineers were reconfiguring the network to get power back to those who had no electricity.
