A car fire caused delays at a busy junction.
The vehicle went up in flames between the Lord Lees Roundabout and the Taddington Roundabout in Chatham, at junction 3 of the M2.
The A229 was blocked and traffic reports said there was congestion in all directions.
The road was initially completely closed to traffic headed towards the M2 but two lanes later re-opened.
Kent Highways asked motorists to avoid the area if possible, adding: "Emergency services are in attendance."
A police spokesman said: "Officers are currently at the scene where no injuries have been reported.
"One lane has been closed for traffic travelling from the Lord Lees roundabout to the junction with the M2, while arrangements are made to recover the vehicle."
Kent Fire and Rescue said: "Kent Fire and Rescue Service is at the scene of a car alight on the M2 London-bound slip road, at the Lord Lees roundabout in Chatham.
"One fire engine is at the scene and the crew have used compressed air foam to put the fire out.
"There are no reported injuries and the cause is not yet known."
The fire started just before 10.30am.
