Funeral goes ahead after car crashes into Rochester graveyard

Mourners had to attend a funeral amidst wrecked graves after a car crashed into a graveyard in Rochester.

Police were called to St Margaret's Cemetery in Maidstone Road earlier today after a car crashed into memorials.

Dr John Foster, who witnessed the aftermath.

"Someone for whatever reason has driven a car through the graveyard and knocked quite a few gravestones down," he said. "The front of the car is severely damaged.

"A family had to have a funeral right next to it, about 15-20 feet away. The car had been covered up and there was two police cars there."

Police confirmed they were called at 10.47am to a report a vehicle had been in collision with several gravestones in the cemetery off Maidstone Road.

No one was injured and inquiries are ongoing, but it is understood the driver may have had a medical incident at the wheel.
