Delays after a car fire on the A229 Blue Bell Hill

Drivers faced delays this afternoon after a car caught alight.
The A229 in Chatham was blocked northbound from Common Road to B2097 Rochester Road.
Black smoke was seen billowing from the vehicle, which was fully ablaze.
It was reported at around 1.41pm, with some motorists saying that there were delays of around 40 minutes.
A spokesman from the fire service said: “One fire engine attended and crews wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the flames using compressed air foam.
“No injuries were reported and the cause is believed to be accidental.”
