A hero who saved a man’s life when he collapsed in the street, sparking a social media appeal to find him, has now come forward.

The family of father Trevor Foster from Gillingham launched a plea on Facebook yesterday to find the mystery man who performed CPR.

Mr Foster, who is involved with Holcombe Hockey Club in Rochester, was in Hart Street, Maidstone, near the Lockmeadow leisure complex, when he suffered a cardiac arrest.

His daughter Laura, took to Facebook yesterday hoping to find the man who rushed to his aid and gave him CPR before emergency services arrived.

She said: "We are so grateful to the stranger who stopped and helped him and we know that when he is fit and well again he would like to be able to thank them personally.

“Please can you share this post and help us find our good samaritan.”

The post has been shared more than 2,000 times and the power of social media has now tracked the hero down after someone realised it was their personal trainer Ricky Potter who had saved Mr Foster.

Mr Potter, who runs a boot camp class in High Halstow, was identified in the Facebook post and then came forward himself to get in touch with Laura.

The former RAF Gunner from Strood, was in Laguna Motorcycles, when a woman rushed in calling for help.

He said: "I was in the RAF for 10 years and was medic trained so I knew what I was doing and I just did it without thinking.

"The policeman who was there said I saved his life. I called the police a few hours later to try to find out if he was ok but they couldn't tell me. I just hope he makes a full recovery."

Mr Foster, a driving instructor for Pilot Driving School, is currently in intensive care in hospital.

His sister Deborah Payn posted on Facebook last night to thank Mr Potter. She said: "No words can ever thank you enough. You saved a very special man My brother xx".
