The Medway Messenger's Charity of the Year is marking a decade of bereavement counselling by launching an online auction.

Abigail's Footsteps, which is based in Chatham , also marked Baby Loss Awareness Week by illuminating Rochester Cathedral last week.

The team launched an online auction where people can bid for a range of items and experiences.

Fundraising and events manager, Becky Hopkins, said: "We'd like to give a huge thank you to everyone, it's very much appreciated in these really tough times that everyone's experiencing.

"Some of the prizes are experiences which gives people hope and something to look forward to for next year – let's hope its a brighter one."

At the time of writing, the online platform had raised £14,010.

This week was also baby loss awareness week, and to mark the occasion Rochester Cathedral was illuminated by pink and blue last Thursday.

Head of operations and events, Faye Hill, said: "I think it's really important to have an awareness week, there is still a stigma attached to being open about baby loss and it's really important that we raise awareness.

"It effects one in four people, so it's nice to be able to all come together where you mark and remember all of those babies."

Due to the pandemic, the charity's bereavement training and counselling is now carried out virtually.

Since June, it has delivered 17 online sessions which have been attended by more than 400 health care professionals and have provided support in over 300 sessions with families.

The team has also announced artist, Louise Giblin, as a new vice president for the charity.

Faye said: "We are really excited to have Louise on board, she has donated some great auction prizes that she holds in her private collection, and we are going to go on to do great things with her in the future."

Louise commented: "The team and supporters have achieved so many positive things over the years and received awards for their great work.

"I'm honoured to have been asked to be a vice president."

The charity is also looking for four more runners to take part in the London Landmarks Half Marathon on May 23.
