14:00, 10 April 2014

A thug who attacked his partner after she bought him the wrong size jeans has been jailed for 10 years.

Justin Blake, 41, ripped open a beer can and slashed at Davina Cook with the jagged edge and then attacked her with a piece of glass, leaving her bleeding.

A judge imposed an extended sentence after declaring he was satisfied Blake was a dangerous offender. He will not be eligible for parole until he has served two thirds of the term.

Blake had only been released from a 14-month sentence less than a month for an affray involving Miss Cook when more violence erupted at his flat in Luton Road, Chatham, on February 8.

The victim told police Blake had demanded she buy him some jeans from Primark and became angry when she returned with 34in waist instead of 32in.

Maidstone Crown Court heard he was extremely drunk when he used a Special Brew can as a weapon.

He tried to slash at her neck but struck her hands and arms as she tried to protect herself. She went to a friend's home and then returned with food for dinner.

But Blake attacked her again, this time grabbing a piece of glass from the garden and cutting her again, telling her: "This is just the beginning. You have got 14 months to make up for. You are going to pay for everything."

Miss Cook, who had been in a relationship with Blake for more than two years, had cuts on her face and severe swelling to both eyes.

Alexia Zimbler, defending, said Blake was originally charged with two offences of actual bodily harm, but they were increased to wounding with intent.

She said: "His response was he was pleading guilty no matter what the charges are. He accepted responsibility and is remorseful. His offending relates to drinking and taking a drug."

Judge Charles Macdonald QC told Blake, who uses the alias Lendon: "This was a sustained assault. You have a number of convictions for violence, including against her. There was use of violence to assert control."
