11:35, 20 February 2017
A man died after "having a medical episode" at the wheel of his car, an inquest was told.
The court heard how 37-year-old Vincent Crooks, of The Esplanade, Rochester, was driving his Volkswagen Golf on the A229 heading out of Maidstone in the early hours of Sunday, February 12.
Dashcam footage recovered from the car recorded Mr Crooks driving normally until he let out a low strained groaning noise. The car then accelerated and left the road near the Running Horse Roundabout.
The camera footage cuts out, but police report that the car smashed into a lamppost, a telegraph pole, and a fence, before flipping over and landing on its roof.
The cause of death was given as multiple injuries.
Katrina Hepburn, assistant coroner for Mid-Kent and Medway, adjourned the full inquest until Tuesday, May 9.
Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash or who saw Mr Crooks beforehand to call 01622 798538 quoting MM/AH/28/17.
