Six fire engines were called to the scene of a fire at a recycling centre last night.

People living near the Chatham Docks are still being advised to keep their doors and windows shut because of smoke coming from the blaze.

Crews were called at around 6.50pm and firefighters remain on the scene.

Two fire engines remain at the scene as well as a telehandler to remove the waste and reduce and chance of the fire spreading.

In an update at 12.45pm, a fire service spokesman said: “This advice is set to be in place for the remainder of the day.

Pictures from the scene show smoke billowing from the building and a large orange light – which isn’t flames.
